After an hour on top, Philip picked us up and drove us through the beach suburbs around Cape Town on the sea. Stunning properties ala San Francisco with lots of restaurants and thaters.
Then back into the city, we headed to the Castle of Good Hope and learned about why Cape Town was so important to the Portuguese in their quest to find the route to India and control the Spice trade (over the Arabs who controlled it before). Then the Dutch East India Company took over and hence why so many Dutch migrated here. Then the British fought the Dutch here and controlled it until the African National Conference (Nelson Mandela) took over and ended apartheid. The result is a wonderful mixture of people of European, African, and Polynesian. The women here are quite striking.... sorry but I still have an eye for the ladies. And the languages are also interesting. English, Afrikaans, and an indigenous dialect called Hosa. Everything is marked in those three languages.
