April 29 continued. Saturday night we had kudu steak and took dinner on a hill overlooking the pond. Dinner did not start until 7:30 pm so it was dark, however, they have the pond lit.
Sunday morning we boarded our safari vehicle and drove to Kasane and the Chobe River. There we boarded a 15 passenger boat and cruised the river despite the chilly temperature. In Africa, the night is cold, however, once the sun is up, it warms up in no time. The six of us enjoyed the animals from the water. Besides the elephants, we saw hippos, birds, water lilies, crocodiles, and dozens of other safari boats.
The above is my favorite tree. The tree is dead, however, just like kudju, the growth just takes over.
After lunch, we were joined by two other couples (Austria and Switzerland) and we hit the Chobe National Park. This time, we searched for the cats and found two fully sated female lions but the king of the jungle was nowhere to be found. We did see a lot of other sights including the water buffalo, giraffes, elephants, and baboons. Also saw a gigantic freshwater crocodile. Africa is not a place to swim in anything but a hotel or lodge pool.
